We adopt a proactive approach to the management of the areas in which we operate.
Chinatown is an incredibly popular tourist destination and famous for its array of food and drink outlets. Alongside this, it is also home to a community which includes hundreds of residents, workers, London’s busiest fire station and a community centre. We work closely with representatives from across this community and take on a stewardship role for the whole area.
As part of this, we have recently installed 35 new CCTV systems across Chinatown to improve security, worked alongside the council to keep the area clean and reduce fly tipping and illegal dumping.
With our support, restaurants across Chinatown have embraced al-fresco dining through the mechanism of pavement licenses and we are working with Westminster Council to create a permanent solution.
To complement this approach, we have looked to build on our significant involvement in public realm projects, such as funding the pavement widening on the west side of Rupert Street, and working with the London Chinatown Chinese Association (LCCA) to create the Wardour Street Arch. Our operational management of Chinatown is of huge importance and our dedicated team works in conjunction with Westminster City Council and Veolia to clean, repair and decorate the streets, and street furniture, alongside reporting any issues in the public realm so that these are dealt with quickly and efficiently.
We work with a range of partners including not-for-profit organisations, charities, educational establishments, and other local community groups across Westminster and Camden. By working with local organisations, we can build long-term relationships that maximise the value generated for the local community from our own resources and influence.
